  1. The Power-QWK Hot Key Manager
  2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  3. Within the Hot Key Manager you may specify up to 26 strings,
  4. each of which represents a DOS command line.
  5.  
  6. The strings are labelled A, B, C, D, etc.
  7.  
  8. Almost anywhere within Power-QWK, pressing Alt/x where x is
  9. a letter of the alphabet, will cause Power-QWK to shell to
  10. DOS and execute Hot Key string x.
  11.  
  12. For instance, you could set up Hot Key string B as a call on
  13. your Comms program to execute a script which calls your favourite
  14. online service or bulletin board, uploads any existent reply
  15. file and then downloads any new mail.
  16.  
  17. Having set up the string, you may press Alt/B anywhere within
  18. Power-QWK to shell to DOS, execute a mail run and then return
  19. to the same point within Power-QWK at which you pressed Alt/B.
  20.  
  21. For online service calls such as this, the obvious place to
  22. press Alt/B is at the Power-QWK Main Menu. When you return from
  23. your Comms program, Power-QWK will recognise that there is new
  24. mail and position the highlight pointer beside the item 'Process
  25. New Mail Packets'. Press Enter and away you go.

  27. By default, Power-QWK will blank the screen before invoking your
  28. Hot Key string but, if you know that the program you're calling
  29. either doesn't write to the screen or, if it does, restores the
  30. original screen on exit, then you may prefix the Hot Key string
  31. with a ! (exclamation mark) character.

  33. This causes Power-QWK not to blank the screen, thus enabling
  34. seamless calls to other well-behaved programs.

  36. Whilst within the Hot Key Manager, you may highlight any of the
  37. 26 strings by using the cursor and paging keys.

  39. You may also use the following:

  41. Return - edit the currently highlighted Hot Key string.
  42.  
  43. Esc - quit Hot Key Manager.

  45. You may also press Alt/x within Hot Key Manager to exit, shell
  46. to DOS and execute Hot Key string x.

  48. However you choose to exit from Hot Key Manager, if you have
  49. changed anything during your visit, you will be asked for
  50. confirmation before the changes are written to disc.

  52. Power-QWK's Hot Key strings are stored in a file named
  53. POWERQWK.HOT. If you never set up any Hot Key strings then this
  54. file will never be created.
  55.  
  56. Any one Hot Key string may be up to 127 characters in length,
  57. although only fifty characters will be visible at any one time
  58. in the Hot Key Manager window. When editing a long string, it
  59. will automatically scroll leftwards when you enter data or
  60. press Cursor Right at the right hand end of the visible string.

  62. You may also reset Hot Key Manager's window colours. These
  63. colours are also used by (and may also be set in) the Addressee
  64. and Conference Pick Lists and Tagline Manager.
